What evil looks like

April 21, 2009

Frakked up justifications for evil acts like this:

--
In other words, the terrorists are called by their faith to resist as far as they can -- and once they have done so, they are free to tell everything they know. This is because of their belief that "Islam will ultimately dominate the world and that this victory is inevitable." The job of the interrogator is to safely help the terrorist do his duty to Allah, so he then feels liberated to speak freely.
-- Marc A. Thiessen

If these "enhanced techniques" are so effective, why did they need to waterboard one terrorist 183 times. On September 11th I wrote:

--
One of the more upsetting things to me is the realization that we, as a country, are going to have to kill people now. Possibly many. I hate that prospect. I hate it when our country kills. I hate it when we kill our own citizens through the death penalty, and I hate it when we kill those in other countries in war or other military action. But these terrorists have now made it impossible for us to do otherwise. The full might of the US Armed Forces will now be focused on finding and wiping out the terrorists. Even if I decide that I agree with this policy, one thing is for sure, I will be stained with their blood.
--

When I wrote that I was imagined lawful military action. I never imagined we'd commit pre-meditated atrocities of our own.
